Coaching Staff

Kate has grown up on the water. Starting her journey in the Miles River Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program at age 8, up until she was able to coach for the club which she did for a couple of years. She then went on to sail for the Gunston Varsity Sailing Team all 8 seasons of High School, serving as their Varsity Captain for her final 4 seasons. Her love for sailing continued on into College, practicing with the Washington College Sailing Team. Since graduating, she has been teaching and coaching both the JV and Varsity sailing teams at The Gunston  School, placing both teams at their perspective championships. Kate is excited to bring her sailing experience back home to the Tred Avon River where she grew up!

Ava Arepally

Green Fleet Coach

Ava's Bio: I am currently a freshman at Bowdoin College in Maine. I was born in Maryland and although my family moved to Atlanta, Georgia when I was four, we kept our roots in Oxford and have spent every summer in Oxford since I can remember. I started in the TAYC Junior Sailing Program when I was six and continued to sail under the TAYC burgee in my Opti at local events until 2019, when I began sailing on a National level. After graduating from Opti's I had two exciting summers sailing the C420 National Circuit and just last summer I returned to TAYC to coach the Intro to Sailing Class. This year I have been on the Bowdoin Varsity Sailing Team which has allowed me to travel and compete against some of the best sailors in the country, so my knowledge of this sport continues to grow. I am excited to be gearing up to coach the Green Fleet team this summer!

Hartley Meyer

TAYC Junior Sailing is thrilled to welcome Hartley Meyer to the lineup of 2024 Junior Sailing coaches! She is currently majoring in Environmental Science and Biology at Washington College where she drives on their Varsity Sailing Team. She describes herself as eager to, "inspire a new generation of competitive sailors through coaching and leadership". Please join us in welcoming her to Oxford for a great Summer 2024 Junior Sailing season!

Skylor Sweet

Skylor, a sailor since age six on the Chesapeake Bay, knows its winds and waters well. Raised amidst the sails of North East River Yacht Club, he's a seasoned racer with salt in his veins.

In the world of Opti sailing, Skylor's prowess shines bright - he's claimed 2nd in the cutthroat CBYRA High Point series and conquered many a regatta. Transitioning to C420, his dominance continued, clinching 2nd in the elite ranks of the CBYRA High Point competition two years running. Crowded Maryland State Champion and victor of prestigious titles like the Oxford Regatta and Mid-Atlantic Midget Championship, Skylor's legend grows.

Skylor has continued his dominance in the art of sailing through four seasons at the very competitive level for Connecticut College culminating with being selected to represent his team in a national championship. Returning for his third season imparting knowledge at TAYC, Skylor's ties to the club run deep. Beginning with attendance at the Oxford Regatta for nine years in a row to eventually sailing alongside the TAYC C420 team with TAYC's own Ava Arepally.

With summer's breeze beckoning, Skylor eagerly anticipates sharing his passion for sailing at one of the Bay's finest venues.

Robbie Wilmer

TAYC Junior Sailing could not be happier that Robbie Wilmer is joining us this summer. Robbie sailed in AYC's Green and RWB Opti Fleets from 2011-2020 competing both locally as well as nationally. While at AYC he rounded out his impressive Optimist experience on keel boats gaining experience on their fleet of J22s. Finding time between Optis and J22s he also honed his skills on J105s, one of the most competitive classes on the Bay. He took his hard won experience and parlayed it into a successful career racing double handed dinghies first for the Herons of Gunston and later the Bruins of Broadneck. Robbie looks forward to passing along some of the knowledge he has acquired as well as a strong sense of the Corinthian spirit to our junior sailors this summer.
