TAYC History

Our story begins in an Oxford, Maryland bath house in 1931. As the Eastern Shore's natural resources flourished, the community established a bathing and sporting club on The Strand, just above the Oxford Ferry dock. It was named the Kap-Dun Club, and after membership climbed, it became the Tred Avon Yacht Club.

As the club refined its racing throughout the 1930's, sailing regattas became well-known and well-attended.

TAYC continually enhanced the club's facilities and waterfront throughout the next few decades, and over the years, inspired new generations of sailors through the Junior Sailing class (we are proud to know TAYC sailors who've had long, successful yachting careers).

Today, TAYC's yachting heritage remains at the forefront. Through encouraging interest and participation in boating and sailing, we cultivate shared passions between members and our community. We hope people of all ages will come to experience TAYC's sportsmanship-both on the water and on land.
