Click Here to read more about Senate Bill 513 and house Bill 1257.  These two bills are curently in the 2010 Maryland General assembly and there will be hearings on March 16th and 19th at 1:00PM for the bills respectively.
 
Clarifying provisions relating to the duties of operators of vessels with respect to the overboard discharge of treated and untreated sewage into the waters of the State; increasing the maximum amount of the penalty for violations of specified provisions to $10,000; authorizing specified officers to enforce specified provisions of law and to inspect specified vessels; and requiring the State to initiate a process with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to designate Maryland waters as a no-discharge zone. "
 
While we all agree that improving Bay water quality is of paramount importance these bills may have unintended consequences which must be considered.

BMW ORACLE Racing wins the 33rd America’s Cup.

BMW ORACLE Racing, the American challenger, representing the Golden Gate Yacht Club, won the 33rd America’s Cup Match on Sunday in Valencia, sweeping past the Swiss defender, Alinghi, to a 2-0 victory.

O'Malley Seeks to Expand Life Vest Rule.

MD DNR will draft a bill requiring all children under the age of 13 to wear a personal flotation device (life vest). Currently the age is 7. This bill is being drafted due to 15 fatalities of children caused by boating related drownings durng 2009.

Current law states any child under the age of 7 must wear a pfd on a recreational boat 21 feet in lenth or smaller, unless the boat is moored or anchored or the child is down below decks. If the legleslation passes, the law would go into effect July 10, 2010.
