The Tred Avon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program has always been an active and vibrant aspect of TAYC. While maintaining emphasis on sportsmanship, safety, and the joys of sailing, the program teaches all levels of sailing and racing. Our junior program mission seeks to revive the skills and knowledge once taught in successful programs that focus on a quality youth sailing experience. Please review the program scope and sequence and course offerings for more details. The program is open to juniors, ages 6 and up, and membership at TAYC is not required. A need based scholarship is available from the Stevenson Family and inquiries are strongly encouraged. Contact Scott Williamson at taycjuniorsailing@gmail.com for more information.

02/15/10: We updated the site's pictures with juniors in action from last summer. It was hard to choose from the great selection, but you can view all the pictures from 2009 here.
02/10/10: Based on the fun that Mother Nature has had with the Eastern Shore and the entire state of Maryland, we have had to make some changes to our start dates. Please review Course Offerings to see specific changes.
02/02/10: Mark your calendars for Friday evening, March 26th at 5:30 for our "Jump Start" event at TAYC! Enjoy the opportunity to ask questions about the changes for 2010, see the master regatta calendar, sign up to volunteer, and catch up with your Jr. Sailing friends.
Opti Development Team parents and TAYC Travel Team parents: VERY IMPORTANT for at least one parent/grandparent to attend this meeting, as we will also be discussing the travel schedule and organizing logistics for the upcoming summer.
TAYC Past Commodore Bill Lane will also join us to discuss and answer questions about our newly offered insurance plan to cover your junior sailor's boat while a part of the Summer Program.
01/28/10: IS 1-2 (June 21 - July 1) of the Intro to Sailing Class is now FULL. Registration is still open for the remaining two week courses.
01/09/2010:There are lots of great improvements to the program this year and registration is now open! Register by March 1 and receive a FREE Junior Sailing T-Shirt for 2010!
Protecting your investment: Did you know that most homeowner's insurance policies only cover your boats when on your own property? That means that damage your boat suffers while at Jr. Sailing, traveling to/from regattas, or on the water may NOT be covered by your existing policy. We are working on being able to offer an inexpensive supplemental insurance policy that will cover your Opti, Laser or 420 during the sailing season. This plan would offer protection from collision damage, trailer accidents, boat vs. dock, and so on. More information on this option will be available at the Junior Sailing Jump Start meeting coming in March.
2010 Atlantic Coast Championships: TAYC has been chosen to host this exciting Opti Regatta! 200 + Opti sailors will come to Oxford for Columbus Day Weekend, October 8 - 10 to compete on our home turf! This is a big deal for our club, and a GREAT opportunity for our sailors to experience a big regional regatta, Green Fleet Juniors included! Planning is well underway, and lots of volunteers will be needed. Please let Jenny Benson know if you'd like to be a part of the planning process! |
